I first painted this fascinating view sometime in the mid-60s. Through all the decades painting in Scandinavia, Germany, Portugal, India, Seychelles Bahamas, etc etc, images of Northumberland have always been there. Innumerable sketchbooks are filled with lighthouses, harbour mouths and coastlines from around the globe...and almost all contain some reference to the North East.
